Due to the high light transmittance of TPE transparent materials, strict requirements are placed on the surface quality of the product. There must be no defects such as streaks, pores, whitening, fogging, black spots, discoloration, poor gloss, etc. Therefore, during the entire injection molding process, great attention and strict or even special requirements must be paid to TPE raw materials, equipment, molds, and even product design.

To prevent contamination of TPE raw materials and the presence of old materials or impurities in the screw and attachment recesses, especially materials with poor thermal stability, all parts should be cleaned with screw cleaner before use and after shutdown to ensure no impurities adhere.

Fix the already injection-molded hard plastic part onto the overmolding mold, then inject and bond the TPE soft rubber onto the hard plastic part at an appropriate temperature, and cool to obtain the product. The injection temperature for overmolding depends on the hard material being overmolded.

TPE overmolding, as the name implies, is to overmold TPE soft rubber material onto other materials.

Since any impurity in the TPE material may affect the transparency of the product, attention must be paid to sealing during storage, transportation, and feeding to ensure the TPE raw material is clean. Especially if the TPE raw material contains moisture, heating will cause deterioration, so it must be dried. During injection molding, a drying hopper must be used for feeding.

Transparent TPE, specifically, is a thermoplastic elastomer, while TPR, translated from English, is strictly called thermoplastic rubber. This is the basic difference. TPE is generally modified from SEBS base material, while TPR is modified from SBS base material.

Common processing methods include one-shot molding with a two-color injection molding machine, or using a general injection molding machine with an overmolding mold for two-shot injection molding. Products formed by TPE overmolding are generally handles, grips, and similar items. TPE soft rubber material has a special comfortable touch, and the introduction of TPE material improves the grip and tactile feel of the product.
