The elastomer industry usually refers to TPE as a composite functional material modified with SEBS.

Transparent grades are available in transparent and translucent series, each with multiple hardness levels; excellent transparency; smooth and soft surface; good yellowing resistance, tear resistance, and tensile strength; environmentally friendly; suitable for various transparent series products.

Diene transparent TPE, diene TPE is mainly an isomer of natural rubber, so it is also called thermoplastic trans-natural rubber. Although its heat resistance and mechanical strength are not as good as rubber, it is widely used in shoemaking, sponge, optical films, and other industrial rubber products due to its good transparency, weather resistance, electrical insulation, and photodegradability.

TPE elastomer soft rubber has excellent comprehensive properties and is the most commonly used soft rubber material for two-shot injection molding, overmolding, and two-color injection molding.

TPE overmolding generally adopts a two-shot injection molding process, that is, fixing the injection-molded hard plastic part on the overmolding mold.

Since any impurity in the TPE material may affect the transparency of the product, it must be sealed during storage, transportation, and feeding to ensure the TPE raw material is clean. Especially when the TPE raw material contains moisture, heating will cause the raw material to deteriorate, so it must be dried. During injection molding, a drying hopper must be used for feeding.

To achieve the matte appearance of thermoset rubber surfaces, a rougher mold surface is required. Generally speaking, the rough surface produced by electrical discharge machining (EDM) of the mold cavity will result in an excellent workpiece appearance and make demolding easier. Abrasive methods such as steam blasting, sandblasting, or shot blasting, as well as chemical etching, can also be used to produce surfaces with different gloss and appearance.

Then inject the TPE soft rubber onto the hard plastic part at an appropriate temperature, and cool to obtain the product. The injection temperature for overmolding varies depending on the hard plastic material being overmolded.

TPE material has good fluidity and is mainly processed by injection molding.

Thickness of the TPE/TPR overmold layer. In most overmolding applications, a wall thickness range of 1.5-3.0mm will ensure good bonding. If the TPE layer is too thin, injection molding is more difficult, bond strength is lower, and hand feel is poorer. If the TPE layer is too thick, on one hand the cost is higher, and on the other hand defects such as sink marks and bubbles are prone to occur.

SEBS is the product after hydrogenation of SBS. SEBS has a saturated molecular structure, which leads to very different characteristics. It has the necessary aging resistance and yellowing resistance for producing transparent TPE, and contributes to excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistance. This is how transparent TPE is made.
