The FAQs about TPE materials
TPE overmolding typically uses a two-shot injection molding process.
Transparent TPE is used in appliance housings, handles, grips, etc. It offers excellent tactile feel, anti-slip properties, ergonomic benefits, ease of coloring and processing, and a wide design space.
TPE is a classic aggregation-induced emission molecule, meaning it has no fluorescence in solution but strong fluorescence in solid state, so transparent TPE materials also have important applications in optoelectronics and other fields.

The pre-molded (injected) rigid plastic part is fixed onto the overmolding mold, and then TPE soft material is injection-overmolded onto the rigid part at an appropriate temperature, followed by cooling to obtain the final product. The injection temperature for overmolding depends on the rigid material being overmolded.
TPE is used in overmolding, with the TPE soft material acting as the outer layer.
Diene transparent TPE: Diene TPE is essentially an isomer of natural rubber, also called thermoplastic trans-natural rubber. Although its heat resistance and mechanical strength are inferior to rubber, its good transparency, weather resistance, electrical insulation, and photodegradability make it widely used in footwear, sponges, optical films, and other industrial rubber products.
TPE high-transparency materials have different product properties depending on the application. Thermoplastic elastomer, also known as TPE material, combines the processing properties of thermoplastics with the physical properties of vulcanized rubber—an advantageous combination of the benefits of both plastics and rubber. Transparent TPE is widely used in daily life and production.

Common rigid materials used in combination are mainly plastics, but also metals and fabrics. TPE overmolding onto fabric is mainly used in luggage and bag products; similar to metal overmolding, this is generally considered false overmolding. True overmolding is mostly seen in two-shot injection and bi-injection molding, where the main material for TPE overmolding is plastic.
During the molding process of TPE material, when filling the mold cavity,
Transparent TPE specifically refers to thermoplastic elastomer, while TPR, translated from English, is strictly called thermoplastic rubber. This is the fundamental difference. TPE is generally modified from SEBS base material, while TPR is modified from SBS base material.
Due to the high light transmittance required for transparent TPE, the surface quality of the material product must be strictly controlled—free from any streaks, pores, whitening, halos, black spots, discoloration, poor gloss, etc. Therefore, throughout the entire injection molding process, strict and even special requirements must be placed on the TPE raw material, equipment, mold, and even the product design.

If the filling performance of the product is poor, there will be excessive pressure drop, prolonged filling time, inadequate filling, etc., leading to quality issues.
